Nazi concentration and death camps were constructed with the purpose of exterminating Jews and other impure races to “clean” German territories. Some of the main ones were Auschwitz, Treblinka, Dachau, Chelmno, Sobibor, Belzek and Majdanek.
Auschwitz concentration camp was the main and biggest camp in the holocaust, located on Poland. It was approximately 40 kms2. In a sign on top of the entrance door the phrase “arbeit mach frei” or work will make you free was located as a sarcasm sign for prisoners. Auschwitz was the first camp with a gas chamber that started working at august 15 1940.
Treblinka was one of the camps during holocaust located in Varsovia. This camp was constructed with the agreement of the SS and Varsovia´s district police. The camp also worked as a work education camp for non Jews polish.
